In the ongoing struggle, Sikhs have sacrificed their lives for the self-respect of the Sikh community, their sacred scriptures (Bani), and their distinctive attire (Bana). Bhai Jagbir Singh, also known as Jagga Nagoke, was a dedicated soldier in this fearless cohort of Singhs.
Birth and Early Life
He was born on March 20, 1965, to Sardul Singh Ji and Mother Hardeep Kaur in Nagoke village, Amritsar district. Bhai Sahib received his education up to the 10th grade at the Nagoke village high school in Taran Taran district.
Anand Karaj
Bhai Sahib had two elder sisters, Randhir Kaur and Dalbir Kaur, and a younger brother named Sukhbir Singh. In 1978, Bhai Jagbir Singh underwent an Anand Karj ceremony following Gurmati Mariyada, marrying Bibi Davinder Kaur, the daughter of Sardar Santokh Singh from Dasmesh Nagar (Malowal, near Dhapian, Tarn Taran). He had two daughters, Sandeep Kaur and Mandeep Kaur, and two sons, Jatinder Singh and Sukhjinder Singh.
Damdami Takasal
Bhai Jagbir Singh Jagga had a deep reverence for Gurbani recitation, Katha, and kirtan. He embraced the path of Sikhism and became an Amritdhari Gursikh on April 11, 1978, during a Gurmat event organized by Damdami Taksal at Khadur Sahib. On this day, he, along with 16 other Singhs from Nagoke and Bahadurpur, took Amrit and became disciples of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji.
13 April 1978 Massacre
Witnessing the tragic events of the bloody massacre on April 13, 1978, in Sri Amritsar by the Nirankaris, where 13 Singhs were martyred and more than 150 were seriously injured, profoundly affected Bhai Jagbir Singh Jagga. It filled his heart with determination to teach a lesson to those who opposed the Sikh faith. When the opportunity arose, he joined the Sikh armed struggle against the adversaries of the Sikh community.
June 1984 and Revault
Bhai Sahib was inside the Darbar Sahib during the Indian Army’s attack on the Sikh community, including Sri Harmandir Sahib and the Akal Takht Sahib, in June 1984. He managed to escape the military encirclement on June 5, along with some fellow Singhs. Subsequently, he met with Bhai Kanwarjit Singh Sultanwind and actively participated in the Sikh struggle for a separate homeland.
In 1992, Bhai Sahib had an encounter with the UP police at Police Post Kukra, near Khanjanpur village in the city of Mohamaddi. During this encounter, the police suffered significant casualties, and Bhai Sahib, along with his fellow Singhs, managed to escape. Afterward, Bhai Jagbir Singh Jagga returned to Punjab.
Shaheedi –20 March 1993
In March 1993, while on his way to Hazur Sahib, he was apprehended by the Punjab Police near the Gurdwara Sahib in Agra. After enduring 17 days of torture at the hands of the Punjab Police in Taran Taran, when Bhai Jagbir Singh did not reveal any information about his fellow Singhs, he was martyred. On March 20, 1993, he was taken and shot dead in a staged police encounter at Karam Singh’s garden in Bhoian village.
In this way, the courageous hero from Nagoke village dedicated 15 years of his life to the Sikh struggle, fighting for the advancement of the Sikh community. He became immortal in Sikh history through his martyrdom. In memory of Bhai Jagbir Singh Ji, a Sri Akhand Path of SGGS Ji was conducted at Gurdwara Baba Bakala for his spiritual peace.

ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੱਗਾ ਨਾਗੋਕੇ
ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਦੇ ਸਵੈਮਾਣ, ਬਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਣੇ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਮਤੀ ਲਈ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਹਨ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੁਝਾਰੂ ਕਾਫਲੇ ਦਾ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਭਾਈ ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਉਰਫ਼ ਜੱਗਾ ਨਾਗੋਕੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਨਮ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ
ਭਾਈ ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 20 ਮਾਰਚ 1965 ਨੂੰ ਪਿਤਾ ਸ. ਸਰਦੂਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਮਾਤਾ ਹਰਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਖੋਂ ਪਿੰਡ ਨਾਗੋਕੇ, ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਦਸਵੀਂ ਤਕ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਪਿੰਡ ਨਾਗੋਕੇ ਦੇ ਹਾਈ ਸਕੂਲ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੋ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਕੌਰ ਤੇ ਦਲਬੀਰ ਕੌਰ ਅਤੇ ਛੋਟਾ ਭਰਾ ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹੈ।
ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ
ਭਾਈ ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸੈਨ 1978 ਵਿਚ ਬੀਬੀ ਦਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਪੁੱਤਰੀ ਸ. ਸੰਤੋਖ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਾਸੀ ਦਸਮੇਸ਼ ਨਗਰ (ਮਾਲੋਵਾਲ, ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕ ਢਪਈਆਂ) ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ। ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੋ ਪੁਤਰੀਆਂ ਸੰਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਮਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਦੋ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜਤਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੇ ਸੁਖਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਨ।
ਟਕਸਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ
ਭਾਈ ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ 8 ਤੋਂ 11 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1978 ਨੂੰ ਖਡੂਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਦਮਦਮੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਮਾਗਮ, ਕਥਾ, ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਪਾਠ, ਕਥਾ, ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਸਮਾਪਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ, 11 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਦਮਦਮੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਪਿਆਰਿਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਛਕ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਪਾਂਧੀ ਬਣੇ। ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਪਿੰਡ ਨਾਗੋਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਬਹਾਦਰਪੁਰ ਦੇ 16 ਸਿੰਘ ਦਮਦਮੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਛਕ ਕੇ ਸੇਤ ਜਰਨੈਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸੈਗੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਸਨ, ਆਪ ਵੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ।
ਸਾਕਾ 1978
13 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1978 ਦਾ ਨਿਰੈਕਾਰੀਆਂ’ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ‘ਚ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ ਖ਼ੂਨੀ ਸਾਕਾ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ 13 ਸਿੰਘ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ 150 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੀ ਹੋਏ, ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਵਲੂੰਧਰਿਆ ਗਿਆ, ਆਪ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਧਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮਨ ‘ਚ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਮੌਕਾ ਆਉਣ ‘ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਪੰਥ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਧਾਈ ਲਈ ਉੱਠੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
ਜੂਨ 1984 ਅਤੇ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਣਾ
ਜੂਨ 1984 ਦੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਫੌਜ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿਮੰਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਸੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਉਪਰ ਹਮਲੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਨ, ਪਰ ਕੁਝ ਸਾਥੀ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ 5 ਜੂਨ ਨੂੰ ਫੌਜੀ ਘੇਰੇ `ਚੋਂ ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਭਾਈ ਕੰਵਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੁਲਤਾਨਵਿੰਡ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਦੇ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਘਰ ਲਈ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਦ ਪਏ ।
ਸੰਨ 1992 ਵਿਚ ਯੂ. ਪੀ. (ਉੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ) ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਮਹੰਮਦੀ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਚੌਂਕੀ ਕੁਕਰਾ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਖੰਜਨਪੁਰ ਵਿਚ ਯੂ. ਪੀ. ਦੀ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਯੂ. ਪੀ. ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੱਥਰ ਵਿਛਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਜੜਾਂ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ । ਆਪ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਰਹੇ।
ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ –20 ਮਾਰਚ 1993
ਭਾਈ ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਆ ਗਏ। ਮਾਰਚ 1993 ਵਿਚ ਹਜ਼ੂਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਗਰੇ ਦੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੋਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ (ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ) ਨੇ 17 ਦਿਨ ਤਸੀਹੇ ਦੇਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਭਾਈ ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਥੀ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੇਤ ਨਾ ਲੈ ਸਕੇ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਜਾ ਕੇ 20 ਮਾਰਚ 1993 ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਭੋਈਆਂ, ਕਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਬਾਗ਼ ਵਿਚ ਝੂਠੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਨਾਗੋਕੇ ਦਾ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸੂਰਮਾ 15 ਸਾਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਲਈ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਮਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ । ਭਾਈ ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਿਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਲਈ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਦਾ ਭੋਗ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਬਕਾਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
